About the Artist

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, in 1973, Rosario Fernández-Esteve (also known as Ross) studied Art Photography at the School of Visual Arts at Syracuse University.  In 1996 she began her professional carreer as a photojournalist and commercial photographer. Even though she has established herself as a known photographer for her creative and artistic point of view in the media, she always worked on her personal artwork and in 1998 participates in her first collective exhibition, going on to show in many collectives and various individual shows.  In 2000 she won first prize in photojournalism from the Instituto de Cultura de Puerto Rico, and to this day, she has won numerous accolades and awards from the Association of Photojournalists of Puerto Rico and the Overseas Press Club in such categories as Fashion, Nature, Entertainment, and Portraiture. She has been included in the highly exclusive group of women photojournalists, Foto Divas. In 2003, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company selected Ross for their international advertising campaign. Currently she works as a photojournalist for the #1 newspaper in Puerto Rico, El Nuevo Día and colaborates with other publications such as San Juan News, Buena Vida, Imagen and Caribbean Business.  In between all that, she keeps focused on her artwork, participating in Photo Miami 2006 art fair and Puerto Ricos V Biennal Photography Exhibit.  This upcoming year, look for more of her at other art fairs such as Art Americas and Circa 2007.
